The Power of Speech & Drama Classes
My classes are designed to improve speech, fluency and self-expression through drama and theatre-making. Theatre-making requires team-work, trust, creativity, ensemble unity, perseverance, and good communication skills. These skills are built within a class over time in a safe space which is fun-filled and spirited!
Individuals gradually develop confidence through participation in class and eventually through sharing class-work with family and friends at ‘look-in sessions’ throughout the year. Over the course of a term, class work is structured to develop theatre skills in a progressive manner with each short term goal building to the next one.
Each class has a theme which is explored using a variety of creative tools and stimuli. The tools include: improvisation, mime and movement, devising, puppetry, characterisation, theatre games and exercises, and lastly, public speaking and debating. The stimuli include: script, prose, poetry, music, songs, costume, props, images, stories, myths, news items, and our lives!
A typical class includes:
- Speech, Breathing, and Relaxation Exercises
- Ensemble games and exercises
- Mime/Movement to Music
- Poetry and Script work
- Devising, Improvising and Story telling
- Irish Board of Speech and Drama Examination or Festival Preparation
